I explored the new CML Tool Box and went to two Power Tools to see what they were all about.  I found Boing Boing to be interesting if a little crowded looking.  I really liked Digg.  It had some fun and interesting items on it. If you haven’t looked at it, do so.

Discovering Web 2.0 tools October 21, 2008

This lesson was very informative.  The website, www.seomoz.org, has the main winning tools to make our lives easier. Some of them are very familiar, but some are new to most folks.  I investigated three of them. MyHeritage was neat and, I think, would be a great resource for anyone getting started in genealogy.  AND they have an area for feedback.  I was not impressed with vufind because when I went to their demo I kept getting an error message.  I was impressed with Biblio.com.  What a great website when you are looking for that book that’s out of print.

This one was harder to do because some of the instructions were missing from the page.  But, with the help of friends, I got it done.

This is a great service from Google and I think I will try to use this at work for those times when 2 or more of us are working on a document to present to other staff.  I can see this for sharing volunteer hours or new technology education.  I think managers in the branches would use this more.

So what’s a Wiki?

I found this lesson interesting.  The St. Joseph County Public Library Subject Guides were well done and you could see how they were growing.  Right now, they are a little restrictive, but you could see what they are trying to do with the wiki.  I especially liked the Book Lovers Wiki.  It was great reading the reviews and I hope the wiki continues to grow because of the limited number they have so far.  The Library Success wiki would be of special interest to librarians.  I’m sorry they had to put an email required on it because that might limit its use.

Library 2.0 October 16, 2008

I think libraries have turned into real 2.0s and are more and more inclined to get what the public wants and needs.  Technology is changing faster and faster and libraries are trying harder and harder to keep up.  Personally, I think brick and mortar libraries will always exist because of those of us who love to handle books.  Who knows, maybe one day books or electronic tablets of books will be transporter right to the patron’s house and returned the same way.

This lesson is something that I think will really help me organize my tags on my home computer. I did create my own account on del.icio.us so I’m all set.  I set a tag for geography, so anyone interested please share.
